Returns and Revolutions

Solar, Lunar and Planetary Returns

Return Charts are always derived from the base chart, so in order to calculate the Solar, Lunar, or Planetary Return chart you will need to cast the base chart first.

To generate a new Return Chart, please follow these steps:
  1. Open a chart or create a new chart.
  2. Expand the Forecast menu and select the 'Returns...' menu option. The Returns form will appear.
  3. Select the following:
    1. Type. This is the Type of the Return. You can choose from the following types:
      1. Return - this is a regular return of a planet to its natal position.
      2. Kinetic return - the chart constructed for the moment when a Luminary transits its progressed position at the moment of natal return.
      3. Phase return - embolismic Lunar returns and returns of the selected planet to the same phase relative to the Sun as in the natal chart.
      4. Personal return - return of the selected planet to the Sun's natal position.
      5. Wynn Key return - the Key Cycle return proposed by Sydney K. Bennett (Wynn).
    2. Planet for which Return chart will be calculated.You can calculate returns for the Sun, the Moon, all the planets, North Node, and for 6 major asteroids.
    3. Position:
      1. It's own - the return will be calculated for the radix position of the selected object.
      2. To degree - the return will be calculated for the specified degree. Use the Degree field to set the position the planet will be returned to.
      3. Planet - return to the place of another planet. This is useful for Solunars, Anlunars and similar. When this option is selected the Return To list of planets will appear.
      4. House Cusp - return of the planet to the selected house cusp. When this option is selected, the list of house cusps will be presented to chose from.
    4. Date. The search for the next Return will start from the date specified.
    5. Location. The location defaults to the base chart's location. If you want to calculate relocated return, then you should change the Location accordingly.
    6. Converse. Select this option to search for returns prior to the base chart date.
    7. Before/After. You can search for Return dates before the requested date or after the requested date.
    8. Precessed. Check this checkbox if you want precession to be taken into consideration when calculating the Returns.
    9. Harmonic. This option allows you to calculate Demi-returns, Quatri-Returns, Enneads-Returns on so on. You should leave the Harmonic value at 1 for regular returns.
  4. Click OK. The Return (Revolution) chart will be shown in the main pane.

Animation of Returns

You can also animate series of Returns.To animate returns, please follow these steps:

  4. Click the Animation button.
The Animation window will appear. Click the Run button to animate Return changes. For example, Solar Returns will move year by year from the Start Date selected till the end of the average lifespan duration.

Solar, Lunar and Planetary Returns Scanner

The Returns Scanner can be used to find the best locations to travel during your Solar Returns, Lunar Returns or planetary returns. The module allows you to search for locations on the globe where Return charts would satisfy provided search criteria.

To search for geographical location of Solar returns (and any other returns), please follow these steps:
  1. Open a chart or create a new chart.
  2. Expand the Forecast menu and select the 'Returns: Scan...' menu option. The Returns form will appear.
  3. Select the following:
    1. Type. This is the Type of the Return. You can choose from the following types:

      2. To degree - the return will be calculated for the specified degree. Use the Degree field to set the position the planet will be returned to.
    4. Date. The search for the next Return will start from the date specified.
    5. Before/After. You can search for Return dates before the requested date or after the requested date.

    8. Scan Criteria:
      1. Planets in Houses  and the House fields: finds all locations of the return where the specified planet is going to occupy the selected House.
      2. Operand:  AND, OR, Exclusive OR, NOT: operands that allow you to combine two search criteria. For example:
        1. Selecting AND will ensure the positions found always satisfy both provided criteria;
        2. Exclusive OR will find locations where only one of the provided criteria is satisfied;
        3. OR will find all locations where at least one or both criteria are satisfied;
        4. NOT will find all locations where the first criterion is satisfied but not the second.
      3. Houses in Signs and Zodiac Sign: select placements of house cusps in corresponding Zodiac Signs.
      4. Starting Point Longitude and Latitude and End Point Longitude and Latitude allow you to restrict locations search to specific areas on the globe.
      5. Degrees Step: frequency of calculations. 5 degree and higher values are recommended. Selecting lower values will give you more granularity but will significantly slow down your scans.
  4. Click OK. The table with all geographical locations that match your search criteria will be shown.

Monthly Divisions

Once Solar Return date has been found, there are many methods of further dividing the year into 12 or 13 periods (monthly divisions).
The Monthly Divisions methods and corresponding charts calculation steps are described in the Monthly Division section.
