Cookie Policy
This page says what AstroApp stores in your browser, why, and for how long. The table below is generated from the site's own code rather than typed out, so it cannot fall out of step with what the site actually does.
What a cookie is
A cookie is a short piece of text a website asks your browser to keep and to send back with your next request. It is how a website can tell that two requests came from the same person, which is all that being signed in means.
What AstroApp sets
Only what the site needs in order to work: a session cookie once you sign in or submit a form, a sign-in cookie so that you can close the browser and come back, and the cookie that remembers your answer to the banner. There is no advertising on this site, no tag manager, no analytics product, and nothing that follows you to another website.
Your choice
Cookies that are strictly necessary are set without asking, because the site cannot be delivered without them -- that is the exemption in article 5(3) of the ePrivacy Directive. Anything else waits until you have said yes. You give or refuse that permission in the banner, and you can change your mind at any time with the button above: nothing is set, and anything already set in the category you withdraw stops being used.
Your answer is kept for 12 months in the AACONSENT cookie. It belongs to this browser on this device rather than to your account, so a different browser asks again -- and if you clear your cookies, so does this one.
Third parties
Two, and both are listed in the table. Google reCAPTCHA runs on the sign-in, registration, password-recovery and contact forms and is what keeps them from being used to send mail in bulk; we treat it as strictly necessary, because without it those four forms could not be offered publicly at all. Stripe and PayPal set their own cookies on their own payment pages while a payment is being made -- we never see your card details, and those cookies are theirs rather than ours.
Turning cookies off in your browser
Every browser lets you see, delete and block cookies, usually under Privacy or Site settings, and you can do that for this site alone. Blocking the strictly necessary ones for astroapp.com means you will not be able to sign in: the sign-in will appear to succeed and the next page will have forgotten you.

Every cookie, and what it is for
| Name | Set by | Where | What it is for | How long it lasts |
|---|---|---|---|---|
SITESESSIONID |
First party astroapp.com |
Every page of the website, once you sign in or submit a form | Identifies your session on the website so that you stay signed in, and so that a form you submit can be checked against the security token issued with it. | Until the browser is closed, and discarded after 60 minutes of inactivity |
JSESSIONID |
First party astroapp.com |
The AstroApp application itself, under /astro | The same thing for the application: it is what holds your working session while you have charts open. | Until the browser is closed, and discarded after 75 minutes of inactivity |
AASSO |
First party astroapp.com |
Set when you sign in; removed when you sign out | Signs you in to the website and to the application with one login, and is what lets you close the browser and come back still signed in. | 30 days, and no more than 75 minutes of inactivity |
AACONSENT |
First party astroapp.com |
Set when you answer the cookie banner | Remembers the choice you made here, so that you are not asked again. It holds nothing but that answer and the version of this notice it was given for. | 12 months |
_GRECAPTCHA |
Third party google.com |
The sign-in, registration, password-recovery and contact forms | Set by Google reCAPTCHA, which those four forms use to tell a person from a machine. It is what stops the contact form and the registration form being used to send mail in bulk. We treat it as strictly necessary: without it those forms could not be offered publicly at all. | Up to 6 months |
Stripe's own cookies |
Third party checkout.stripe.com |
Only while you are paying, on Stripe's own payment page | Stripe hosts the payment page itself; we never see your card details. The cookies it sets there are its own, are set on its domain rather than ours, and are what carry the payment through and detect fraud. | Stripe's own -- see Stripe's cookie notice |
PayPal's own cookies |
Third party paypal.com |
Only while you are paying, on PayPal's own pages | The same, for a payment made with PayPal. | PayPal's own -- see PayPal's cookie notice |
